receiving mail

Image from Pink Preppy Lilly Lover
Vogue received from Derya

I love sending little post cards to my friends (snail mail...which it is unfortunately called these days) somehow still gives a bit more excitement than an e-mail. Yesterday, I received more than just a little note: I received the British Vogue sent all the way from Leiden to Curacao. Such a delight. Though it is unfortunate that it is not available on the island, it does give it some more significance when it is sent or brought from anywhere else in the world to my mailbox.

the art of doing nothing

I have a few days off and actually from the very first day I was a bit dazed about the idea of “what to do” and actually constantly looking for something either fun or productive.  Then suddenly today it hit me; when I am working (in the office) or my days are packed I long for the afternoons I can just be lazy and be doing nothing (doing nothing of course being something like reading or taking (extra long) mid day naps). I can just do nothing for a few days, before I know it I will be back at work and I am sure that at a certain point I will just want an afternoon like I am having now ( which is lying in my bed, with the airco on, reading and working on my blog….mind you its 3.34pm…..splendid!).

emma bridge

Photos from own collection

Yesterday for about an hour we were on the Emma Bridge, enjoying the view, the subtle movements and the wonderful feeling of being on the bridge when it opens and closes.

The Emma Bridge, built in 1888 by Leonard Burlington Smith, and named after Queen Emma (1890–1898), this bridge connects the Punda and Otrobanda districts in Curacao.
The 16 floating pontoon boats support the “Pontoon Bridge.” Also known as the “Swinging Old Lady,” it swings open using two powerful ship motors, allowing ships to access the port. From 1901 to 1934, people had to pay a toll to cross the bridge, with the exception of pedestrians going barefoot.

interior inspiration

I love the combination of the brick walls, the large open windows and the little garden terrace.
(ok, also the book shelves, the dining table and the hanging lamp)

Have a splendid day.

“The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, the education, the money, than circumstances, than failure, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it. We are in charge of our Attitudes.”
-Charles R. Swindoll-
